Firefighters Receive Protective Hoods

hoods donation

High Springs Firefighters were presented with this life saving garment on August 3rd.

On June 26th, GFWC High Springs New Century Woman's Club, Inc and High Springs Brewing Company hosted "Hoods for Heroes" a fundraiser to raise money for the purchase of protective hoods. These hoods protect a firefighter's head, neck and shoulders from heat and chemicals – that can result in serious health problems. That includes cancer, which is currently the leading cause of U.S. firefighter deaths.

As a result of "Hoods for Heroes" the Woman's Club was able to raise enough money to purchase hoods for all your High Springs Firefighters.

Assistant City Manager/Director of Emergency Services Bruce Gillingham and Firefighter/Paramedic Doug Hope accepted the generous donation this morning.
