Position:  Governmental Accountant                                                                  Posted until filled

Job Type:             Full-Time

Work Hours:      Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm

Pay rate:              $25.00 to $30.00 per hour

Description

This is a responsible, technical and professional position with responsibilities relating to the overall administration of the financial accounting and reporting functions of the City. This position works closely with and reports to the Finance Director under general supervision and does not include any supervisory duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for bank reconciliations.
  • Responsible for monthly account reconciliations.
  • Review and post required General Journal and Adjusting Journal Entries.
  • Develop accounting analytical reports.
  • Assist with the year-end closing activity, up to and including the audit and ACFR.
  • Assist with the fixed assets and grant accounting functions.
  • Responsible for the annual physical parts inventory.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and two years of work experience, preferably in the governmental area.  Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

This position does not require a CPA or CGFO certification, but either is a plus

Other Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, including governmental and proprietary accounting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Ability to research, compile, and analyze data.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger structure and chart of accounts set up.
  • Ability to utilize computers and various software applications for analytical and data maintenance purposes.
  • Ability to carry out complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
