Water Treatment Plant Operator

City of High Springs – Utilities Department

The City of High Springs is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our Utilities team.  A water treatment plant operator keeps a community’s drinking water safe and reliable.  It’s a hands‑on, technical role that blends mechanical know‑how, environmental awareness, and steady decision‑making

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and adjust water treatment equipment such as pumps, filters, chemical feeders, and disinfection systems
  • Conduct routine water quality testing (pH, turbidity, chlorine residuals, etc.) and document results
  • Interpret data from SCADA systems and make process adjustments to maintain compliance
  • Perform preventive maintenance on plant machinery and identify equipment issues
  • Manage chemical dosing and maintain chemical inventories
  • Collect water samples for laboratory analysis
  • Inspect plant facilities and ensure all processes meet regulatory standards
  • Respond to alarms, equipment failures, and emergency situations
  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and compliance documentation
  • Flush fire hydrants throughout the city to maintain fresh water circulation and ensure system-wide water quality
  • Address customer complaints related to water quality and provide clear, professional communication about findings and corrective actions
  • Follow safety procedures and support a clean, organized work environment

 

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • FL State water operator license Class C or higher is required
  • Physical ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in varying conditions
  • Mechanical and/or electrical knowledge
  • Ability to read and understand schematics
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $23.00-$27.00 per hour DOQ

Additional Requirements

Applicants must successfully complete a pre‑employment physical, substance screening, and background investigation prior to final approval. All applications are subject to Florida Public Records Laws.
