Water Treatment Plant Operator
City of High Springs – Utilities Department
The City of High Springs is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our Utilities team. A water treatment plant operator keeps a community’s drinking water safe and reliable. It’s a hands‑on, technical role that blends mechanical know‑how, environmental awareness, and steady decision‑making
Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and adjust water treatment equipment such as pumps, filters, chemical feeders, and disinfection systems
- Conduct routine water quality testing (pH, turbidity, chlorine residuals, etc.) and document results
- Interpret data from SCADA systems and make process adjustments to maintain compliance
- Perform preventive maintenance on plant machinery and identify equipment issues
- Manage chemical dosing and maintain chemical inventories
- Collect water samples for laboratory analysis
- Inspect plant facilities and ensure all processes meet regulatory standards
- Respond to alarms, equipment failures, and emergency situations
- Maintain accurate logs, reports, and compliance documentation
- Flush fire hydrants throughout the city to maintain fresh water circulation and ensure system-wide water quality
- Address customer complaints related to water quality and provide clear, professional communication about findings and corrective actions
- Follow safety procedures and support a clean, organized work environment
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- FL State water operator license Class C or higher is required
- Physical ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in varying conditions
- Mechanical and/or electrical knowledge
- Ability to read and understand schematics
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $23.00-$27.00 per hour DOQ

Additional Requirements
