Public Information Office

Public Information and Communications

The City of High Springs recognizes the importance of providing information about city news, activities, and emergency notifications to our citizens. With accurate, consistent, and relevant information, effective communication practices can lead to widespread public acceptance and engagement.

The Public Information Officer (PIO) serves as the communications director for the City of High Springs and is responsible for overseeing the execution and monitoring of communications efforts by all city departments. The PIO is on-call 24/7 for public safety emergencies and breaking news on major incidents.

Information and emergency notifications are disseminated by the Public Information Officer via several different channels, including the city website, High Springs Highlights, a quarterly newsletter; social media, news media outlets, and HS ALERTS, the City of High Springs' Emergency Notification System.

The City of High Springs is a member of the Florida Association of Public Information Officers (FAPIO.) As a member, PIO's may be called upon during times of disaster to aide in communications efforts in the affected area, whether in-state or out of state. These requests come from FAPIO on behalf of the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

The Public Information Officer also assists other city departments with internal and external meeting presentations and marketing/tourism development campaigns.
