**CORRECTED** The previous story said holding basins are 500 gallons. Residential basins are 150 gallons.

If you are a city water customer and experience a water or sewer problem, please call our 24-hour Public Works dispatch service at 800-879-0724.

During a power outage, please limit water and wastewater use, especially flushing toilets, to reduce strain on your system. Remember: Anything you use still goes to your grinder basin, and the grinder pumps are not running without power. You have roughly 150 gallons of space in the basin, but once it's full, it may begin backflowing into your home.

If you have a generator, many grinder control boxes have a connection for a generator to plug into. The pumps that have it are 240v pumps, while any others are typically 120v. You'll need a Nema L14-20 plug to hook your generator to the control box.

Once the control box is powered, the grinder pump should kick on and start pumping down your grinder basin. The alarm may go off, look for the silence button on the bottom or side of the control box and press it in.
