As we pickup from Hurricane Debby, please remember that any yard debris placed out for collection needs to comply with the regular specifications for yard debris placed curbside. Any material outside of those specifications will not be collected by the City’s provider, WastePro.

We expect that the volume of yard debris placed curbside for collection will far exceed a regular collection week. WastePro’s yard waste truck is only available to the city once a week. This will mean a delay for some customers in picking up their yard debris.

Yard debris includes leaves, tree and shrub trimmings, and small tree limbs. It does not include boards, fencing, landscape timbers, lumber, dirt, rocks, brick, or concrete.

Piles should be no bigger than 6 feet long, 4 feet wide, 3feet in height. Branches can be no longer than 6 feet and diameter no wider than 6 inches.

Alternatively, you may drop your yard debris at one of Alachua County’s Rural Waste Collection Centers. The two closest to us are located at 16929 NW US Highway 441 in High Springs or 10714 N SR 121 in Gainesville.

Further, open burning of “yard waste” (defined as leaves, shrub trimmings, grass clippings, palm fronds, and brush) on residential premises of not more than two family units is allowed in Florida.

Authorization from Florida Forest Service (FFS) is not required for burning of residential yard waste; however, it is recommended that you still contact FFS regarding burn conditions for the day(s) you plan to open burn.
