*TROPICAL STORM ELSA UPDATE # 04*
7/5/21 11:00AM

As of the 11AM advisory, TS Elsa was located about 595 miles SE of High Springs, moving NW at 14 MPH, with maximum sustained winds of 65 MPH, gusting to 75 MPH.

Specific impacts to our area are still unknown. Once Elsa passes through Cuba, we should have a better idea of those specifics. At this time, heavy rain, and gusty winds are forecast. Rain fall totals in the order of 2-4 inches, with spot 6 inch amounts are predicted through Wednesday. While not an unusually high amount for a tropical system, this comes on top of the several inches we have already received the last two weeks. The winds have the potential may bring down many of these soggy trees. Downed trees=power outages.

Based on the anticipated heavy rainfall, Alachua County will have sandbags available for residents today (7/5) from 12PM-5PM and tomorrow (7/6) from 8AM-5PM, at Wayside Park, next to the Sunoco station in Hague (11855 NW US 441). Limit 10 bags per person, please.

For best access, please follow these directions to Wayside Park:

From High Springs:
--South on 441 towards Alachua/Gainesville
--Left on CR 237 (at Dollar General)
--Right on NW 126th Ave
--Right NW 59th Terrace to access Wayside Park
